Knowing Your Limits
Animals, like humans, need a lot more than just food and water to survive and have a quality of life.
They need:
- Shelter which protects them from excessive heat or cold
- Supervision to ensure their safety
- Daily exercise and stimulation to keep them alert
- Routine veterinary care to keep them healthy
- Vaccines and other medications as needed to prevent potentially fatal conditions such as heartworms
- Trips to the vet when they become sick which may mean after-hours emergency care
These things cost money. If you are not in a position to meet these costs, it may be better not to take in an animal at all.
